Let’s hope they didn’t start us down the road to World War III!
Yes, we hapless Americans have to hope that our dictator in chief, in waging unconstitutional, illegal, immoral, unjustified war against Iran will not touch off a train of events similar to all the other “once and for all” Middle Eastern invasions engineered by both the United States and Israel, invasions that have never resulted in anything other than more blood, more suffering, more injustice and more hate. We have to hope that two of the most despicable figures on the world stage are rewarded for their corrupt gamble with the lives of innocent, helpless human beings for their own profit.
Both right-wing forces in both the United States and Israel have preserved Iran as a bogyman/super-villain to justify bloated defense budgets and international “tension” in order to detract attention from the fact that they have absolutely nothing to offer their respective nations in the way of domestic policy. Who cares about that sissy domestic stuff? Don’t you know there’s a war on? Shut up and put your shoulder to the wheel like a true patriot! And, most of all, stop asking questions! There isn’t time!
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. How far we have traveled down that road since the heady days of the Berlin Wall collapse. The recklessness of George I in Panama and Iraq encouraged the recklessness of Bill Clinton in Eastern Europe, which encouraged the recklessness of George II in both Iraq and Afghanistan, which encouraged the recklessness of Obama in Libya and Syria, which encouraged the recklessness of Biden in Gaza, which encouraged the recklessness of Trump in both Gaza and now Iran. Despite the fact that all previous displays of military force have ended in disaster, the toxic allure of “absolute power” continues to display its hold. Bad habits are so very hard to break. Only absolute disaster, it seems, will do.
Afterwords
I have already written about Trump, Netanyahu, Israel, and Iran far more often than I would have wished. Well, I’m afraid I’ll be writing about them even more in the future.
