The left-wing morons celebrating his death are disgusting; but so is Donald Trump and he’s president and they aren’t.
Charlie Kirk’s murder was a horrifying crime and a great personal tragedy for his family. The now-familiar pattern of “passionate” lefties either finding a convenient moral in the murder of a right-wing big-shot—when they don’t celebrate it outright—should not obscure the fact that while Kirk did go face to face repeatedly with unfriendly liberal audiences to make his case (and make fun of his often hapless interlocutors), he was also the frequent purveyor of right-wing, racist trash of the most virulent kind. Here, for example, is an “X” from Charlie back in September 2024:
Residents of Springfield, OH are reporting that Haitians are eating their family pets, another gift of the Biden-Harris mass immigration replacement plan. Liberals will soon be lecturing Americans on why they need to be sensitive to Haitian culture and accept this as the new normal. Those idiots deserve to be condemned and mocked mercilessly.
Save our pets. Secure our borders.
Charlie helpfully links to a news report headed “Biden floods Ohio town with 20,000 Haitan residents: ten to a bedroom,” though, contrary to Charlie’s racist “replacement theory” conspiracy mongering, the federal government was not involved, according to CNN, and Republican Governor Mike DeWine didn’t seem too upset about it all either:
Ohio is on the move, and Springfield has really made a great resurgence with a lot of companies coming in. These Haitians came in to work for these companies. What the companies tell us is that they are very good workers. They’re very happy to have them there, and frankly, that’s helped the economy.
So who ya gonna believe, Big Mouth Charlie or the Republican Governor of Ohio?
Kirk and his organization Turning Point were extremely active in the promotion of Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally/pillaging of the U.S. Capitol, as Wikipedia informs us, and Kirk took the Fifth Amendment regarding those activities when being questioned by the House Committee on the Jan. 6 insurrection. He most unsurprisingly continued to ask “questions” regarding the 2020 election and of course endorsed Trump’s blanket pardon of all involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection. (Wikipedia’s post on Charlie also chronicles a good many more “inaccuracies” on Charlie’s part if you’re interested.)
So, yeah, Charlie did “dare” to face down loud-mouthed, empty-headed collegiate lefties and perhaps enabled a few to reexamine their “passions”, but unscrupulous deceit in the pursuit of enlightenment is scarcely a virtue. And the murder of such a man is very clearly liable to make things much, much worse.
Afterwords
Over at Politico, Ian Ward argues, pretty persuasively, that Kirk was more than a smarmy, smooth-talkin’ MAGAsplainer: He was also an extremely shrewd and successful organization builder, recognizing that the old Reaganite/Bush/Romney Republican Party was nothing more than an empty shell and that it could and should be replaced by something “new”, however corrupt and vicious and racist that something might be. Over at New York, Benjamin Hart interviews Kyle Spencer, author of a book on Charlie and his organization Turning Point USA, noting both Kirk’s remarkable media acumen and his ability to obtain, at a very early age, the confidence and cash of many of the most serious moneymen on the right.
